Where is MAZDA From?

Ever wondered what country is Mazda made in? Your favorite new Mazda models are manufactured in many different places, but the main plant is located in Fuchu, Aki District, Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan. Founded in 1920, Mazda got its start creating three-wheeled motorcycles called “Autorickshaws” before moving on to motorized carts and eventually vehicles, all infused with the game-changing technology and innovation the company has always represented. Discover more about where Mazda is from with this overview from Mazda of Jackson!

Who Owns MAZDA?

The Mazda Motor Corporation owns Mazda. Twenty years after their founding, Mazda introduced their first passenger vehicle in 1940. Up until that time the company was primarily known for their three-wheeled carts, but as the demand for affordable cars grew, Mazda developed new compact cars, trucks, and three-wheeled vehicles to serve that need. Because of that push, Mazda created their legendary rotary engine, an innovation that forever influenced the models we know and love in Madison today.

What Country is MAZDA Made In?

The Mazda lineup is made in several different locations throughout the United States and Japan. The list of Mazda manufacturing facilities includes:

  • Hiroshima, Japan (two separate facilities)
  • Hofu, Japan
  • Flat Rock, Michigan (at the Auto Alliance International facility)
  • Claycomo, Missouri (at the Kansas City assembly plant)

Check out this breakdown to see where the Mazda model you drive in Ridgeland originally came from:

  • Mazda3 Models: Mazda3 models are produced at the Japan facility in Hofu, Yamaguchi, Japan, while the engine and transmission production for these models is handled by the Hiroshima plants.
  • Mazda5 Minivan, Mazda CX-5, MX-5 Roadster, RX-8: These models are made in the Hiroshima facility in the Miyoshi ward. A majority of the performance Mazda models are built here.
  • Mazda6 Models: Two North American facilities that are co-owned by Ford handle this model, coming from both Flat Rock, Michigan and Claycomo, Missouri.
  • Mazda SUVs and Sedans: For additional models not mentioned, they are handled by Mazda’s Japanese plants.

The Ford co-ownership benefits both brands through superior chassis and designs used in production for their models. These American facilities mass produce quality models with ease, getting them to Mazda of Jackson for safe, reliable journeys through Brandon and beyond.
